VHS Player & Tape

2084 Narrative
This project aims to explore a dark future where humanity has become victim to mandatory AI tracking and forced into densely packed cities through fake natural disasters and manipulation within the media. After years of spilt blood and brainwashing the majority have become blind to the truth and live what they think is a life of freedom but in reality are caged like animals and forced to slave away for larger entities which have infiltrated governments and the free world system. All though the blind do not seek the truth, there are individuals that see straight through the smoke screen of this so called “freedom”. A group of rebellious individuals in particular have found away to spread the truth through VHS tapes, radio signals and graffiti all of which cannot be manipulated by AI.
Spatial Concept
Within my project I have chosen to focus on my tomb space which consists of a radio room and an exhibition space. The aim behind this area was to create a space that embodies the process of a VHS going into a VCR, extracting its information and projecting its imagery. This has been achieved through architectural elements on site such as the staircase which spirals like a tape. The fan void which embodies a video drum and processing unit. And finally a triple height space where information is projected. Water can be found in various areas on the lower floor this element was added to visually show sound emitted from the room above.
