2084 Narrative

In the year 2084, the hidden rebellion against the oppressive government had taken root, driven by ideals deemed forbidden by the authorities. The act of dancing, along with any form of entertainment or expression, had become a potent symbol of resistance against the government’s desire to control and suppress individuality.
The government’s crackdown on dancing went beyond mere prohibition; it extended to the systematic eradication of every trace of this once vibrant art form. Dance, once a universal language of expression, seemed to vanish as if erased from the collective memory of society. The stage was set for a silent revolution, where the rhythm of defiance would one day break the oppressive silence that enveloped society.

Spatial Concept

In this project, I embark on a journey to explore the profound interplay between my chosen relic, the VHS tape, and dance within architecture, particularly in the context of preserving the nearly vanished art of dance in the realm of 2084. My focus on dance emerged from my personal connection to the VHS tape, which reminds me of watching my sister’s dance shows recorded on it. This inspired me to combine dance and the VHS tape within Roche Abbey, leading to the creation of my site, the D.L.C. (Dance Liberation Center). This centre is dedicated to reconnecting with dance within the historic set- ting of Roche Abbey, aiming to safeguard the lost tradition of dance and honour the history of the VHS tape, intertwined with the rich heritage of Roche Abbey.
