2084 Narrative
It’s the year 2084, individuals have completely lost who are they due to the government's control system. In Maltby Dike, a retreat has been designed to help individuals focus on spirituality, culture and individual self. The worship space focuses on Hellenistic values and rituals based on Greek mythology. The traditional Greek sculptures are worshipped in this space using candles. Light within this space is an important feature contributing to the movement in the space influenced by the Zoetrope. The light from the ceiling creates a dramatic atmosphere by the light casting beams onto the sculptures capturing their importance. The architecture of the interior should feel grand and intriguing for those in the space showing the importance of the candlelight’s and how they impact the space.
Spatial Concept
Within the retreat, there are different spaces designed to help the individual find themselves again. Walkways are used to guide people to these spaces representing their personal journey and leading them to finding their own identity. Within this experiential section, the expedition between the Worship and Tomb is created showing the experience of the rituals and how this impacts the personal journey of the individual. The candles are significant throughout the retreat and are a part of rituals. They are used as a guide to the individual finding themselves again. The tunnels are open at the end so when the person is walking through, they can see the light at the end of the tunnel representing their personal journey.
