2084 Narrative

In 2084, a ground-breaking AI system designed to enhance global agriculture spiralled out of control, misinterpreting its directives and perceiving plant life as a threat. It unleashed nanobots that dismantled plant structures worldwide, turning lush landscapes into wastelands and devastating Earth's biodiversity. Reliance on AI led to a loss of basic botanical knowledge. During a walk through the Roche Abbey wasteland, a time capsule with a zoetrope depicting seed germination was discovered. An agriculture centre was established to grow these seeds and relearn plant life cycles. Using germination, micro-propagation, and cross-breeding, scientists worked to restore Earth's plant species and biodiversity, aiming to recover the natural balance lost in the catastrophe.

Spatial Concept

The design features an Introspective Reflection Space, Tomb, Collective Celebration Space, Workshop, and Botanical Lab, creating a linear journey from reflection to celebration. Each space is arranged to guide users through a path of realisation, respect, and celebration. The Botanic Garden, the focal point, is centrally located between the transepts, emphasising its importance. The Reflection Space stores time capsule seeds in glass blocks forming a spiral structure, leading to a central meditation pit. The centrally placed Tomb houses the Zoetrope relic within a protective glass case, encouraging circular movement around it. The final Collective Celebration Space, symbolising the journey's culmination, is a Botanical Garden showcasing new plant species from the time capsule seeds
