Trentside Arts Centre is a new state of the art building focusing on creating community through the main three aspects of the creative arts, music, dance and drama. The building includes theatres, rehearsal rooms and multifunctional performance spaces with the ability to become exhibition or function rooms. This is partnered with catering facilities for the whole community as well as hosted events. Extensive landscaping has been incorporated to expand the performance spaces outside and include involvement of the river.
The aim of this building is to be a welcoming and inviting environment for everyone, to create opportunities through the creative arts and help be the catalyst for a new and vibrant community hub in the local vicinity while also attracting people from further afield.

An Investigation into the Factors that Affect Visual Experience in a Building:

The optimum visual environment is key to ensuring productivity and good well-being as an average British person spends 80-90% of their time indoors. This research project explored the factors that affect visual experience in a building and the methods of assessing visual perception to enhance the usability of a theatre. The project was completed in three phases, a literature review, 3D modelling and surveys using VR simulations to determine the most influencing factors and preferred layout which was then implemented into the main project.
