Forest Field Secondary School is a new secondary school in Sneinton, Nottinghamshire of around 900 students. The scheme will strive to improve the area and reduce deprivation, as well as enhance the level of education in the surrounding towns. This project will focus on pushing the boundaries of teaching and designing progressive and inventive spaces where knowledge can be shared and expanded. Connectivity is at the forefront of the design and will influence how areas interact with one another to create a seamless flow of harmony. The environment is decreasing rapidly and sustainability has become a central pillar for all future proposals. Therefore, the proposal will strive to achieve a BREEAM outstanding rating, whilst working towards a net-zero carbon building.
A strong connection with nature will inspire the students, boost concentration, and transform the school into an environmental paradise. The scheme will enhance the biodiversity of the site and utilise sustainable strategies to reduce the overall carbon footprint of the building and ensure that it is designed with the future in mind. Main entrances are shaped in the form of large glass structures which provide a seamless visual connection with the natural surrounding environment. In these locations the students will feel as though they are working and walking in nature, which improves wellbeing and productivity. Inclusivity is apparent through a fully accessible landscaped site and internal building, with SEN and student support for any students with mental health or learning difficulties.
