The Engineering academy is a state of the art, innovative engineering school that specialises in the world of motorsports. Located at the historic Donington park circuit which is the oldest in use track in the UK that has hosted legends from motorsports. The swooping feature roof inspired by the aerodynamics of a F1 car and the cement and patina copper panels were chosen to give the building an industrial but modern style. The academy utilizes renewable energy and has been designed with sustainability as a primary focus to achieve its NET-ZERO goal. The aim of the academy is to inspire the coming generations of engineers to enter the world of motorsports.
Noise reduction techniques for educational facilities near airports.
Schools should provide students with a comfortable learning environment where they can get the best education before moving onto either higher education or entering the world of work. Noise is crucial factor that has to be considered during the design process of a school, especially if the school is located near an airport as this can have a major impact on the students education. The Engineering Academy is located next to East Midlands airport, one of the busiest cargo / passenger airports in the UK. With planes constantly flying overhead the I had to find a way of reducing the Db levels from the aircraft in the classrooms from 65 dB down to 35 dB to create a comfortable learning environment.
