Project
When visiting Venice, one is immediately drawn to the city’s unique architecture, which is gracefully built above the water and blends seamlessly with the surrounding landscape. Molo Sottomarino, located in Venice’s historic Arsenale district, aims to embody and expand this architectural language, resulting in a harmonious dialogue between the city’s historic charm and contemporary design.
Molo Sottomarino will highlight the history of modern warfare since World War II, with two special areas inspired by Venice’s historic overwater structures. The ground floor will feature a winding path, creating a dynamic and engaging visitor experience within a new, open layout.
At the heart of this design is a tribute to Venice’s maritime heritage: an underwater section made of steel that houses the Enrico Dandolo Submarine, a powerful symbol of courage and innovation. This central element emphasises the intersection of history and modernity, capturing the spirit of exploration and resilience.
This project is built on the principles of environmental sustainability. The design carefully considers local conditions, the direction of sunlight, material selection, and natural airflow within the building. By doing so, it hopes to reduce environmental impact while increasing visitor comfort.
