Research

A museum, is a non-profit public institution that curates exhibitions for educational and cultural purposes. They play a vital role in community building and education. They also have potential for proactive and effective community engagement, presentation of diversity, and nurturing of reflection.

I found that Physical stimulation, Sensory stimulation and Authenticity of an experience can affect interaction and how we learn within a space.

Shared experiences can cultivate learning. Learning extends further than in educational establishments or work, so the encouragement of interaction in third spaces is important.

Project

The Perception Academy is a community-based educational centre. It provides opportunities to slow down, relax, and connect with those around us. A third space open to all, where people can learn, share, and enjoy new stimulating experiences.

The students study curation which is the act of selecting and organising work for display which involves interaction with and the study of the public.

The museum space allows the community to share their backgrounds, culture, skills, and knowledge. While the exhibition space (The Middle Ground) allows visitors to put themselves in the shoes of curators.

The building is designed to build the experience of curiosity, exploration to surprise. Light is used for direction and vertical voids draw the visitors attention to encourage exploration.
