Greenscape Institute
Atelier 02: Learning Neighbourhoods
Spatial Concept
In today’s fast-paced nature of living and the rise of urbanisation in cities, the disconnection between humans and the natural world has become more apparent as access to landscapes of greenery and
vegetation has become more difficult.
In result, this has led to an increase in stress, anxiety and depression, with many seeking solace from the use of pharmaceutical medications and remedies as well as therapy. However, there is a growing realization that answer to a better wellbeing and healing the mind may be not through synthetic solutions, but in reconnecting humans to the healing properties of nature and biophilic design.
My project ‘Greenscape Institute’, presents an opportunity to redefine the urban landscape through the use of biophilic design and biomimicry.
Project
One of the facilities in my project – the Education and Research centre is dedicated to training Nottingham’s next generation of mental health practitioners. This facility is equipped with library and indoor learning spaces to support ongoing education and professional development. Additionally, inspired by my precedents of Maggie’s centre, the facility features a retreat space which offers comprehensive mental and physical support for the patients. Embracing biomimicry and biophilia, the design of the spaces fosters a nurturing atmosphere, enhancing well-being and promoting healing through nature-inspired spaces that support both education and patient care.
