Project
Upon research, I noticed that in the most urban areas of Nottingham, there is a lack of space for citizens to indulge in music. This is a problem for people who have already started making music and for people who wish to pursue music. I have felt that since the digital age has come into full effect, it has made the whole process of being noticed as an artist twice as hard, since it all relies on clicks and views. Less emphasis has been put on live shows and performances for small musicians to allow themselves to be exposed to consumers face to face. I feel like this is wrong since there is a certain connection, we as consumers gain with musicians through seeing them perform live that just can’t be experienced when viewing these same musicians through a screen.
Project
For this reason, I aim to create a music hall space that tackles these issues by being a place where musicians of all types of genres can get chances to perform and connect with other people, an opportunity that would be rare for them to attain under normal circumstances. Through inviting all musicians in Nottingham from all types of genres, the space can address the topic of decolonisation as it focuses on different musical cultures from around the world and brings it all together in one space. With the help of this space, musicians can find more like-minded individuals that they could potentially collaborate with. People can discover small musicians in their area that they end up becoming big fans of and can also come and meet like-minded personalities that enjoy similar music.
